In this simple but powerful painting process we'll start with a photo of your ancestor or kindred spirit and use the meditative application of paint on the canvas combined with writing exercises to discover and distill the message your honoree want you to hear right now.

About Call Honor Ask

I created this short painting course for communing with kindred spirits - both kin and "kin by claim". I wanted a process that was basic - for beginners and advanced painters - so that the focus could be on listening instead of any technical aspect.

What I didn't expect is that the process would be so powerful personally.  That my own ancestors would be right there and accessible - with such distinct personalities and with messages that that make me cry (and cry again every time I watch the video!)

I strongly recommend that you treat your time in this process as sacred. Indeed even as spiritual. I can't wait for you to try it.

"How do you do it? Time and again, Jenafer, you come up with these brilliant ideas and processes for reaching deep into the unconscious and tapping otherwise inaccessible wells of understanding and amazing revelations.
What an exciting genealogical adventure - one I never dreamed possible - to essentially create through painting and poetry a unique ancestry connections that speaks across the generations!"

The full course includes six lessons each with tips and musings.

This is a short 6 prompt course that you could do in a couple hours or spread over a week.  Whatever works for you and your life. I highly recommend repeating the process with different kin/dred spirits. The end results are delightfully different.

I try to keep my supply list limited and the same for all my courses. So once you invest you can keep playing.  Parentheses include the specific product I used, all of which I highly recommend if you are starting your art supply from scratch.

  • Photo of your honoree printed in black and white on plain paper.
  • Canvas (Blick Studio Traditional 11x14)
  • Medium flat brush. (I love the Da Vinci Junior Series set from Dick Blick. For this process I use the flat brushes size 4 & 10)
  • Acrylic Paint in a short rainbow- red, yellow, blue, black, brown & white (Golden Fluid Acrylics in Cadmium Red Medium, Diarylide Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Raw Umber, Bone Black, & Titanium White.) Golden paints are expensive but worth it if you can swing it.
  • Waterproof Black Pen (Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens “B” Brush Nib) Sharpies work great too.
  • Charcoal (Vine Charcoal Jumbo Stick) pencil/watercolor pencil are workable substitutes
  • Plus from around the house: Paper for journaling,  jar of water, glue (I use matte medium & a credit card), hairdryer if you plan to speed through the process!
