a story, poem, or picture that can be interpreted to reveal a hidden meaning
Join me and create a painting that mirrors the soul's allegorical journey through the wild woods and into an inspired new beginning.
You're going to love this journey if you already enjoy painting on canvas but are ready to dive deeper into intentionally working with symbols. This course follows a fairytale arc - starting out in your ordinary every day life, following the pull of something "more", meeting allies, advice givers and wild wisdom in the woods. We use what's showing up in your real life as well as activating your imagination. And we document the full journey step by step in a super satisfying way.
If you're new to painting, don't be intimidated! This class breaks it down. And you'll love how using simple sketches done in watercolor pencil creates the building blocks of a visually beautiful and personally powerful piece.
If you are someone who loves to be inspired but gets frustrated by how much watch time there is on most online courses, this one is definitely for you. I intentionally make my prompts short (2-5 minutes each), with inspiring music to get you in the mood - so you slip right into arting instead of getting stuck in passive consumer mode. And the 44 zippy prompts in this series include some of my favorite techniques: writing on the canvas, etching, stencils, patterns, and, most importantly, the practice of walking a story so that you really experience the nitty gritty personally.
"Jenafer Joy’s classes are well-organized, whimsical and oh, so creative! Her suggested prompts nudge me into my intuitive side at the same time introducing some new artistic techniques I can play with. Jena’s beautiful examples and her honest way of poking around the deeper self are inspirational and downright fun. She has structured the class so you can be totally flexible with time, prompts and just how deeply you want to explore the suggested topic. Jena is the bomb!" -Wendy

Supplies: If you already have paint and canvas you can totally try with what you have. My specific recommendations are below in parentheses. Using these brands, especially the paint pens and watercolor pencils helps guarantee similar results (ie colors that shine, pens that don't bleed and watercolor pencils that activate beautifully)
- Canvas (Blick Studio Traditional 16x20)
- Assorted smaller size brushes (Da Vinci Junior Series 303 and 304 – sizes 1, 6, 8 & 10) plus a larger sash brush like the Escoda size 4
- Acrylic Paint in a short rainbow- red, yellow, blue, black, brown & white (Golden Fluid Acrylics in Cadmium Red Medium, Diarylide Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Raw Umber, Bone Black, & Titanium White.) Plus Quinacridone Nickel Azo Gold. Start with 1 oz size though you may need more...
- Waterproof Black Pen (Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens “B” Fine Nib) Sharpies work okay if you can't find the Artist Pens.
- Watercolor pencils in basic colors (Inktense brand)
- Optional but fun - a stencil or two in a pattern that inspires you.
- Plus from around the house: Paper for journaling, paper towels, jar of water.
The course is ready for you to stroll or run through. Whatever pace works for you and your life. There are 44 videos (all under 5 minutes a piece) to prompt you step by step. Each step will take you between 5-15 minutes to complete. You can take a new bite every day or use a blow dryer and dry the canvas to move through the whole experience over the course of a weekend!
Your purchase gives you immediate and permanent access.
