"What a wonderful way to take some time for yourself to explore how you're spending your time, and whether you'd be better served by some re-focusing. For me, it was an enjoyable way to experiment with some new artsy techniques, too! I'm so glad I gifted myself with this course."

Hey gorgeous! Nice to see you here.

So - I created this Focus course following a 3 month spell with my 2 year old where I was spending an inordinate amount of time sitting in my car waiting out nap time.

Where I live in Mendocino CA there's terrible cell reception, so mostly that car time was sitting and thinking. One of the things that I didn't expect out of this daily confinement was how space to think meant that I took a serious look at my priorities. And what I really really didn't expect was that - after digging around in my deep smart parts and listening - my priorities were totally NOT what I was thinking they were AND they weren't what I was making a priority in my daily life.

It's my experience that we all talk a lot about priorities, but mostly in a superficial way. What we REALLY want is an excuse to dig a little deeper and find out some new information. With that in mind I've created this 8 part journal buffet for you!

"Jena's Focus Class did just what you'd expect. Through clever ways of sneaking up on 'soul information,' I quickly gained insight into my hidden subconscious priorities. What fun and what surprises awaited!"

If you've taken a course with me before, the format will be familiar. We'll be doing fast and furious writing, doodling and digging for connections, collaging in a couple different ways, word spelunking, and dabbling in paint to seal in the truths of what we've learned. Basically I'll be using all my favorite tricks to support you in sneaking up on yourself so you can hear what you have to say! And when you're complete, you'll also be completely clear on your true priority.

Focus is a solo do at your own pace course.  With your registration you'll receive immediate access to the prompts.

There's absolutely no rush. I designed this course to be done as a prompt a day but please please feel free to blow through them up or savor them. Whatever works for you and your life. You'll have indefinite access to all the materials.

I'd LOVE for you to share your process on Facebook and tag me so I can see. Or email me private peeks!

"I really enjoyed how the process was self-guided and that I could moderate it's completion according to my own schedule. That was a huge relief and allowed me to be more present when it came time to complete a new step. I also enjoyed that I could read the directions and go, or stop and watch the video if I needed a better idea of possible end-goals for the day. The prompts were effective and thought-provoking and I had to take a deep breath and lean into my fear on the seventh step; really trusting the process. Thank you for being part of re-focusing my priorities so that I might better achieve my goals for this leg in my journey."

Thank you so much!  Discovering you online has been such a blessing.  Your courses have been fun and transformative!  My relationship to my creativity has changed— in a good way!  I used to long for a form of creative expression but I’ve never “good at art” and haven’t been able to express myself visually. Your courses have changed that.   I appreciate your focus on authenticity over technique.  The playful, non-precious attitude that you convey has allowed me to dismiss my inner critic and just have fun!

Supply List

I try to keep my supply list limited and the same for all my art journal courses. Parentheses include the specific product I used. Of course, substitute what you have on hand if it's not in your budget to buy these!

  • Journal with thick paper (Canson XL Mix Media Pads 9×12)
  • Watercolor pencils in a short rainbow of colors (I strongly recommend the Inktense brand)
  • Thick Waterproof Pen (Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens “B” Brush Nib in Black) Sharpies work great too.
  • Assorted smaller size brushes - you'll only need a size 6 or 8 for this series (I love the Da Vinci Junior Series 303 and 304 – sizes 1, 6, 8 & 10)
  • Acrylic Paint in a short rainbow- red, yellow, blue, black, brown & white (Golden Fluid Acrylics in Cadmium Red Medium, Hansa Yellow Medium, Cobalt Turquoise, Raw Umber, Bone Black, & Titanium White.)
  • Matte Medium (I recommend using the Liquitex Matte Medium)
  • Magazines or Patterned papers, book pages, photos, odds and end images in a collage "stash". (I use my New Yorker subscription)
  • Plus from around the house: Paper for journaling, sharp ballpoint pen for journaling & transfer, magazine, scissors, old credit card for spreading matte medium, water.
  • Access to a printer to print out an image on black and white images on plain paper.

I listed the specific art materials on: dickblick.com

When the announcement regarding FOCUS arrived I knew it was exactly what I needed - a brief but intense look at options yielding a clear choice. I should know better by now. Oh, FOCUS is all that but so much more. As with all of Jenafer’s courses, there’s a richness that’s real world practical and another that’s so metaphysical it will break open doors long bolted, release energies and bring messages from spirit I thought had long ago gone to dust. Once again, Jenafer, thank you so very much!
