The holy grail of painting is finding a sweeping movement that brings your painting alive.  But how do you get flowing? This course is focused on my favorite tips for getting out of the way and letting the magic through.
Pen, Palette Knife, Paint:
Power Up!

$47 for permanent access Or part of a Monthly Subscription

This course was born out of a request from four girlfriends: "You're so loose in your painting. Can you PLEASE show us how?" All of these ladies lamented that they were getting stuck stuck stuck in the details. Over working and over thinking.  It was time to break out my bypass tools! Pen for easy explorations and palette knife to stop the perfectionist. I so enjoyed my impromptu in-person lesson and was totally inspired to capture  the information into this course. Stella, Mary, Gina & Carmen, this course has everything I showed you and more. Thank you for asking.

What's Special About Power Up

(aka is this class for me?)

  • If you've tried painting but feel like you get tight and blocked, I'd love for you to explore using pen and palette knife as a possible magic key to looseness. Watch over my shoulder as I demonstrate easy playful movements and then enjoy trying them yourself.
  • If you're new to painting, you couldn't pick a better class. We start with a very basic shape and build in easy to follow step. You'll love how using simple lines and primary colors creates a visually beautiful and personally powerful piece. I'll narrate both techniques and mental approach, sliding you right into the flow.
  • If you are someone who loves to be inspired but gets frustrated by how much watch time there is on most online courses, my offerings are definitely for you.  I intentionally make each prompt short (2-5 minutes each), with inspiring music to get you in the mood - so you slip right into arting instead of getting stuck in passive consumer mode.
  • This course will take you between 2 and 4 hours - perfect for an afternoon art date or spread it over a couple weeks.

My demonstration painting took 1.5 hours so you can expect to spend between 2 - 4 hours depending on your natural pace. Each step will take under 15 minutes to complete. You can take a new bite every day or use a blow dryer and dry the canvas to move through the whole experience over the course of an afternoon!

  • Canvas (Blick Studio Traditional 16x20) larger okay but smaller will make it hard to use the palette knife.
  • Waterproof Black Pen (Faber-Castell Pitt Artist Pens “B” Fine Nib.) Sharpies work in a pinch though I find them too stinky for regular use.
  • Palette Knife (Blick Palette Knife By RGM Style 40) or what you have on the smaller side.
  • Small "stiff feeling" flat brush and small liner brush (Da Vinci Junior Series 303/304 – we'll use sizes 1, 6)
  • Acrylic Paint in a short rainbow- red, yellow, blue, black, brown & white (Golden Fluid Acrylics in Cadmium Red Medium, Diarylide Yellow, Ultramarine Blue, Raw Umber, Bone Black, & Titanium White.)
  • Plus from around the house:  paper towels, jar of water.

"Jenafer Joy’s Approach is by far the lightest and the deepest method I have experienced. Lightest, for it immediately surrounds inner work and exploring in joyful play. Engaging even my grumpiest parts into a “fun game”.... Deepest, for we can follow the thread as deep as we wish.  She leads gently but firmly, engaging playfully and deeply at the same time. A rare gift. Solo divers are welcome here, and secured a safe space of private witnessing with her gentle, witty guidance. But she also surfs and maintains group energy incredibly well, strengthening synergies and supporting each one of us as if we were truly unique to her and in the world. I have been relying on Jenafer for my own balance for quite some time now, and she keeps surprising me, with her creativity, with her amazing cultural, spiritual psychological information, and with a true generosity of spirit. Dear Jena hope you know that I wholeheartedly, (and wholebrainly) appreciate you!!!!!" - Anna
